Biographical Sketch for Gene Wood

Gene Wood’s passion is the local church.   He has served as Senior Pastor of Grace Church of Glendora since 1991.  Grace has enjoyed 12 consecutive years of growth. Recently they have made a bold programming move to 'Small Groups' which opens the door for another decade of expansion and outreach.

Previous pastorates were in Oregon, Pennsylvania and Ohio.  Each church has been an established congregation undergoing the trauma of plateau and decline.  Gene has hammered out the lessons he shares in his books through trial and error, failure and success.  Turnaround ministry is his focus and life experience.

Gene has earned an A.A. Degree in Law Enforcement from Green River Community College;  B.S. Degree from Western College in Salem Oregon;  Th.M Degree from Dallas Theological Seminary;  and was awarded a  D.D. Degree by Western College in 1998.

Gene and his wife Carol were married in 1975.  They have three grown children and three grandchildren.

Interests include a love for basketball, racquetball, and weightlifting.  His favorite places to relax are the beaches of California and Hawaii or along the scenic Victoria Harbor, in Hong Kong.

Gene is the author of three books addressing essential aspects of turnaround.  Leading Turnaround Churches was published in 2001.  In addition it has been printed in the Philippines and South Korea.

Gene’s second book, Leading Turnaround Teams was published in 2004.   No leader can accomplish significant change and success without gathering around them a loyal team committed to the values, vision, and purposes of the organization.   LTT addresses what only the leader can bring to the table and examines how to develop a team which moves the organization from good intentions to an exciting new reality.

This book will continue to focus on local church ministry but principles will be applicable for any non-profit organization.

Gene’s 3rd book, ‘Going Glocal’, was published in 2006. This book takes a fresh look at how local churches can accomplish global ministry regardless of their size, location and resources. It will challenge your thinking and many status quo perceptions about world mission

Leading Turnaround training events have been hosted by more than one-dozen denominations.  Leading Turnaround training has found a warm reception in all areas of the United States as well as the continent of Asia.

As demand for training has increased Gene’s travel (traveling over 150,000 miles per year for Turnaround training and glocal partnerships), he has begun to focus on training of trainers both in the States and overseas.   For a listing of groups who have used LTC training and their responses you can consult the LTC website www.leading-turnaround.org.
