When I completed “Leading Turnaround Churches” in 2001, I had no
idea what God would do with this simple book. Six years later, we
have shared the LTC principles in 50 states, 7 countries, with over
30 different denominations.
Leading Turnaround Churches is now in its third printing.
I
have been asked to share these principles across the nation in well
over 100 various settings. During the past six years, I have
compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions (FAQ). At the
request of our publisher, these are being compiled for our new book.
The 10 FAQ’s listed below will also provide new material for our
newest seminar: BEYOND TURNAROUND which is now being booked for
2008.
1)
In LTC training, you speak of the need to confront divisive and
difficult church members. Is confrontation always necessary?
2)
In LTC training, you talk about “blood shed” as a probable
ingredient in turnaround. What exactly are you suggesting?
3)
When dealing with chronically difficult people, should we just tell
them to leave?
4)
It appears that you and many other turnaround leaders are “Type A”
personalities. What if we are not that type of person? Can God use
us to implement effective turnaround? At the end of this training, I
have concluded I do not have what it takes to be a turnaround
leader. What should I do?
5)
In the first day of LTC you seem to imply the leader is the CEO.
What about the team work, collegiality and congregational imput?
6)
The second day of LTC you talk much about building consensus. I
thought it was the Pastor’s job to lead. Explain how a leader can be
a consensus builder?
7)
My denomination has an appointment system. They move pastors
routinely every so many years. If it takes up to 7 years to become
the “leader”, how can I ever do what you are suggesting?
8)
My denomination wants the people to be loyal to them, not to the
pastor. If I begin to do anything which creates short term
dissatisfaction, they will simply move me. Why bother trying to
create healthy change?
9)
Is there anything wrong with shepherding a church and not being
worried about growth? Why is growth so necessary?
10)
You talk about the importance of having a ministry coach. Where can
I find such a person at a price I can afford?
